Learning to Ski with Mr. Magee

When my husband and I talked about getting Finn a pair of skis for his second birthday, I decided to phone our local Kidsbooks to see if there were any titles about skiing. This was the first they recommended, and the first I picked up…and it’s entertained all of us ever since!
It’s the story of Mr. Magee and his little dog Dee (or dog is Duane and we call him D, so Finn loves that), and how they wake up one snowy morning and decide to go for a ski. Their paths cross that of a big moose and the usual hilarity that one can find in really clever books ensues.
This book is so delightfully illustrated and well-written that we’ve been using it as our special “potty book”, and it makes the minutes spent in the bathroom very entertaining. The author, Chris Van Dusen, has two sons of his own, and so I’d like he think he wouldn’t mind knowing his book is currently a bathroom book in our household.
This title would make an excellent Christmas gift for a young reader or someone who isn’t reading yet but likes a nice rhyming story with great pictures to look at while listening to a funny tale.
There are two more books in the Mr. Magee series: A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee, and Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee, and I’ve just phoned Kidsbooks to order them for Finn for Christmas.
If your local book store doesn’t carry them, you can find them on Amazon.com for US customers, and Chapters online for Canadian customers!
